The General Assembly of the Polish Young Academy, organized in cooperation with the Young Academy of Sweden (Sveriges Unga Akademi - YAS), was held at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw on April 23-24, 2025. Representatives of both academies discussed key issues in modern science - from academic freedom to European cooperation.
The meeting was opened by the presidents of both academies - Maciej Sałaga (AMU) and Sofia Lodén (YAS). Later in the day, participants learned about the structure and scope of YAS and AMU activities - presentations were given by Andreas Nord (YAS) and Marzena Smol-Aruszanjan (AMU).
A particularly important highlight of the program was a session attended by Prof. Pawel Rowinski, President of ALLEA (The European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities). It concerned the prospects for cooperation between young academies in Europe. The discussion was moderated by Elham Rostani (YAS) and Lukasz Sadowski (AMU).
There was also a very interesting discussion about academic freedom and science funding systems in Poland and Sweden, moderated by Lisa Hellman (YAS) and Andrzej Katunin (AMU). The exchange of experiences provided a look at the differences between the countries, but also showed how common values can unite young researchers across Europe.
The first day of the session ended with inspiring scientific presentations, during which Ann-Kristin Kölln, Shervin Bagheri (YAS), and Anna Maria Górska and Michał Tomza (AMU) presented their research.
The second day was devoted to the internal work of the Polish Young Academy and Young Academy of Sweden, planning future activities, and discussing PYA's participation in international initiatives - including the ALLEA General Assembly in 2026. There was also a joint tour of the Staszic Palace and the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
This meeting was not only a platform for exchanging experiences and views, but above all the beginning of new international friendships and opportunities for cooperation.
