Maciej Sałaga

He obtained his PhD degree in experimental medicine from the Department of Biochemistry at Medical University of Lodz. Currently he holds the position of associate professor at the same university. The goal of his research is to characterize novel molecular mechanisms that may be targeted in the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. In his studies he focuses on functional and inflammatory disorders of the GI tract. He is also interested in the regulation of G protein signaling in the gut, including RGS proteins and their effect on opioid, cannabinoid as well as serotonin receptor cascades, their ligands and degrading enzymes. In his work he mainly uses animal models of GI disorders, as well as abdominal pain and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Dr Maciej Salaga is a co-author 39 original papers and 23 review articles with total H index = 19 (sum of times cited 1064). He has also been invited to give oral presentations about his research at several international conferences, including the European Opioid Conference 2013 held in Guildford, UK, VIIth Joint Meeting on Medicinal Chemistry 2013 Lublin, Poland and United European Gastroenterology Week 2016, Vienna, Austria.

He was a member of the Young Talent Group of the United European Gastroenteroogy.

He completed fellowships in the following research centers:

Neurobiology Research Unit, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Chemistry and Medical Neuroengineering Independent Unit, Medical University of Lublin, Lublin, Poland.

Department of Neuroscience, The Scripps Research Institute, Jupiter, FL, USA.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, USA.
