Prof. dr hab. n. med. Marcin Magierowski jest pracownikiem Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego – Collegium Medicum (UJ CM) w Krakowie i kierownikiem Ośrodka Biomedycyny i Nauk Interdyscyplinarnych w strukturze Wydziału Lekarskiego (wcześniej kierował Pracownią Inżynierii Komórkowej i Diagnostyki Izotopowej (Katedra Fizjologii)). M. Magierowski realizował i realizuje obecnie liczne granty finansowane przez Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju oraz Narodowe Centrum Nauki (NCN); jest również opiekunem młodych naukowców realizujących projekty finansowane przez NCN (Preludium) oraz Ministerstwo Edukacji i Nauki (Perły Nauki). Tytuł doktora nauk medycznych z wyróżnieniem uzyskał w 2016 r., habilitację w 2019 r., a profesurę tytularną w 2023 r. Marcin Magierowski jest laureatem Nagrody NCN 2024, stypendium MNiSW dla wybitnych młodych naukowców, stypendium START Fundacji na Rzecz Nauki Polskiej, nagrody Naukowej Fundacji Polpharmy, nagrody im. Prof. T. Browicza (Polska Akademii Umiejętności), wyróżnienia American Gastroenterological Association, United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award 2024 i innych.
Badania translacyjne i laboratoryjne prowadzone przez Marcina Magierowskiego oraz założoną przez niego grupę badawczą Gaseous Mediators and Experimental Gastroenterology Lab (https://gameg.cm-uj.krakow.pl) dotyczą fizjologii, patofizjologii, biochemii, biologii molekularnej i farmakologii, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem potencjału terapeutycznego nowych proleków uwalniających endogenne gazowe mediatory, takie jak tlenek węgla czy siarkowodór w schorzeniach przewodu pokarmowego. Wyniki tych badań zostały opublikowane w prestiżowych czasopismach naukowych znajdujących się w pierwszym decylu dla danej kategorii wg bazy JCR; był też prelegentem na wielu prestiżowych konferencjach naukowych w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Kanadzie i Europie. Marcin Magierowski rozwijał swój warsztat naukowy i prowadził badania m.in. w McMaster University w Kanadzie, Newcastle University w Wielkiej Brytanii, czy też w Erasmus Medical Centre w Rotterdamie (Niderlandy). M. Magierowski był/jest członkiem (w tym na zaproszenie) prestiżowych międzynarodowych towarzystw naukowych, t.j. m.in. American Chemical Society, Society for Redox Biology and Medicine i inne.
Prof. dr hab. n. med. Marcin Magierowski is a full professor at the Jagiellonian University – Medical College in Krakow and the head of the Center for Biomedicine and Interdisciplinary Sciences within Faculty of Medicine (previously, he led the Cellular Engineering and Isotope Diagnostics Laboratory (formerly part of the Department of Physiology)). M. Magierowski has been the principal investigator of research grants funded by the National Center for Research and Development and the National Science Center (NSC). He supervises young researchers conducting projects awarded by NSC (Preludium) or Ministry of Education and Science (pol. Perły Nauki program). He obtained his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree with honors in 2016, completed his habilitation in 2019, and received the title of full professor in 2023. Marcin Magierowski is a recipient of the 2024 National Science Centre Award, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship for outstanding young scientists, the START scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science, the Polpharma Scientific Foundation Award, the Browicz Award for outstanding medical research (granted by the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences), recognition for outstanding early-career GI researchers from the American Gastroenterological Association, the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star 2024 award, and other distinctions.
Marcin Magierowski and the Gaseous Mediators and Experimental Gastroenterology Lab, which he founded (https://gameg.cm-uj.krakow.pl), focus on the physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology, with a special emphasis on the therapeutic potential of novel endogenous gaseous mediator-releasing compounds, such as carbon monoxide- and hydrogen sulfide-releasing prodrugs, in the gastrointestinal tract. The results of these studies have been published in prestigious scientific journals ranked in the first decile according to the JCR database. He has been a speaker at many prestigious medical conferences in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Marcin Magierowski has developed his scientific background and conducted research, among others, at McMaster University in Canada, Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, and at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. M. Magierowski has been/is a member (including by invitation) of prestigious international scientific societies, such as the American Chemical Society, the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine, among others.
